Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This is a common problem mostly affecting women. It is due to the compression of the median nerve at the wrist. This compression can be supported by certain professions (seamstress, Crafts, teachers ....), Diabetes, pregnancy.

DIAGNOSTIC

Tingling sensation in the fingers of the hand (thumb, index, middle)

The pain initially starts when making small efforts and then it becomes permanent, even nocturnally. At an advanced stage, the sensations of cramps can lead to patients dropping objects.

A review can be found :

  • Decreased sensation in the fingers
  • Pain on hitting the palm of the hand
  • Pain in the anterior flexion of the wrist

The diagnosis is confirmed by electromyogram (EMG)

TREATMENT

  • Medical treatment : It is possible during the initial phase with intermittent genes. It is through prescribing analgesic, anti-inflammatory and / or performing infiltration with corticosteroids.
  • Surgical treatment : Surgery remains the most effective method of choice. This is an open path by quick release (1-2cm) or endoscopic carpal tunnel.
TRAITEMENT

FOLLOW-UP

  • Surgery performed in ambulatory (half day)
  • Recommended to used the operated hand from day 1.
  • Recovery is usually rapid.
