Orthopedic surgery has been revolutionized and modernized through arthroscopy. This non-invasive surgical method has been used for years to treat various diseases of the joints. Initially it was used only for exploratory purposes but it is now the method of choice for different ligament problems, cartilage and other joint elements.

The advantages of arthroscopy are such that if a reliable arthroscopic solution exists then open surgery should not be resorted to.

Arthroscopy treats multiple joints according to their technical features. There are common technical principles :

  • Arthroscopy is done in a strictly aseptic operating room.
  • General or local anesthesia is necessary.
  • Mini 1cm incisions are made and used to introduce a camera that transmits an HD screen what is happening inside the joint. The live feed allows visibility in completely repairing any damage by inserting instruments with specific purposes through mini incisions.

They are numerous and affect different joints, the most common are:

  • Shoulder: Repair the rotator cuff tendons, instability, calcifications, stiffness ...
  • Knee: meniscal lesion, graft ligament (ACL, PCL), cartilage damage, stiffness
  • Ankle: conflicts, cartilage damage ...
  • Wrist: Carpal tunnel syndrome, instability ...
  • Hip: conflicts ...

Arthroscopy is an elegant method, precise and effective treatment of joint damage. The postoperative suites are much simpler and faster.

Hospitalization is shorter post-operative and less painful.

Rehabilitation is initiated immediately.

Delays in returning to professional sports or daily activities are reduced to a minimum and rehabilitation is shorter than in conventional surgery.
